What rug size do I need?

Measure the room before ordering. The rug should connect the furniture and leave a visible border of floor around the room.

Helpful rule: When you are between two sizes, the larger size usually gives the room a more balanced look.

Placement tips

Living room

Center the rug with the seating. At minimum, place the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug. Larger rooms usually look best when all furniture legs sit on the rug.

Dining room

Make sure chair legs remain on the rug when the chairs are pulled out. About 24 inches of rug beyond each side of the table is a useful target.

Bedroom

The rug should extend beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed when it does not fit beneath the entire bed.

Runners

Leave a few inches of visible floor on both sides. Center the runner in the hallway or open walking path.

Round rugs

Round rugs work especially well under round tables and in square entry areas. Choose a diameter large enough to hold the furniture, not just the table top.

Measure before ordering

  1. Measure the exact length and width of the area.
  2. Use painter's tape to mark the rug outline on the floor.
  3. Check that doors, floor vents, and walking paths remain clear.
  4. View the taped outline from the room entrance before choosing.

• For small spots, use as little moisture as possible. Blot gently and dry immediately.
• For larger stains, pet accidents, odor, or full cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended.
• Trim loose ends or sprouts with scissors at the base. Do not pull loose fibers.
• Rotate the rug periodically, especially in high-traffic areas, so wear and fading are distributed more evenly.
• Use a rug pad to reduce movement, help protect the floor, and extend the life of the rug.
• Recommended for indoor use.

• Do not machine wash.
• Do not steam clean, carpet shampoo, soak, hose off, or hot-water extract.
• Do not bleach.
• Avoid liquid cleaners unless the manufacturer specifically allows them.
• Avoid prolonged moisture. Water can weaken natural fibers and may cause staining, browning, mildew, or texture changes.

Pleasantly surprised!

I'm currently going through a remodel and chose to purchase a beautiful Berber carpet for my living room. Once it was installed I realized that my cat has a difficult time walking on it. Her claws get caught in the loops. I quickly realized my mistake in choosing Berber and made the decision to go online and find an area rug big enough to fill most of the room. I spent hours sifting through various websites trying to find something I liked. It's a huge challenge purchasing rugs online... sight unseen. I almost gave up before finding one more website. AreaRugs.com. I was surprised to find a pattern that I liked in a size large enough to fill the space but I was leary about making my purchase because the price point was significantly lower than all the others that I had seen. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting a high quality rug for the price when I found this one, but I knew I needed to find a solution, so I bought it. It's beautiful and very well made. My cat loves it as much as I do, and that makes my heart sing. I'm waiting for the wrinkles to relax a bit and then I'll be ironing the rest of them out with a steam iron and wet white towel. Of course, I'll make sure the iron does not make direct contact with the rug. I know that would scorch the rug. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase! Love My New Rug !

I struggled finding a larger than normal size area rug. Our living room a fairly large and I needed a 13' X 19'. Without going bankrupt on a custom cut rug I came back to this rug time and time again. Wish other colors were available at a larger size, but this color/s really does work in the room and with my new couch!! LOVE IT
