Surya Rugs

Surya is built around a family legacy that began in North India in 1976, when a chance meeting between Surya Tiwari and an American buyer led to a small business supplying hand-knotted rugs. Surya Tiwari later established a U.S. division, and his son Satya Tiwari became president in 2006, expanding the company far beyond its original rug assortment. Today Surya works with tens of thousands of artisans while offering hand-knotted, handwoven, natural-fiber, machine-made, outdoor, and performance rugs in styles ranging from traditional to thoroughly modern. That father-to-son history gives Surya a personal connection to the rug-making traditions that remain central to the brand.

Why Choose Surya Rugs?

Surya rugs span traditional, transitional, modern, contemporary, abstract, geometric, textured, natural-fiber, and indoor/outdoor styles. The breadth of the assortment makes Surya useful when you want to compare several design directions, materials, and construction types while keeping the search within one brand.

Styles and Materials in This Collection

Surya collections range from understated neutrals and natural textures to strong patterns, color, and decorative detail. Materials and construction differ significantly from one line to another, with both hand-crafted and machine-made options represented. Always check the individual product page for fiber content, pile height, backing, cleaning guidance, and indoor or outdoor rating.

Surya Rugs by Room

Large Surya area rugs can anchor living rooms and open seating areas, while runners suit halls, kitchens, and narrow passages. Dining rooms need enough rug around the table for chair movement. In bedrooms, decide how much rug should show at the sides and foot of the bed before choosing a size. Lower-profile rugs are often easier where doors swing over the rug.

How to Choose a Surya Rug

Measure the furniture layout first, then filter Surya rugs at BuyAreaRugs.com by size, shape, color, style, material, and construction. If you are comparing two sizes, mark both footprints with painter's tape. This makes it easier to see whether the rug connects the furniture properly without crowding walls, doorways, or circulation paths.
