What rug size do I need?

Measure the room before ordering. The rug should connect the furniture and leave a visible border of floor around the room.

Helpful rule: When you are between two sizes, the larger size usually gives the room a more balanced look.

Placement tips

Living room

Center the rug with the seating. At minimum, place the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug. Larger rooms usually look best when all furniture legs sit on the rug.

Dining room

Make sure chair legs remain on the rug when the chairs are pulled out. About 24 inches of rug beyond each side of the table is a useful target.

Bedroom

The rug should extend beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed when it does not fit beneath the entire bed.

Runners

Leave a few inches of visible floor on both sides. Center the runner in the hallway or open walking path.

Round rugs

Round rugs work especially well under round tables and in square entry areas. Choose a diameter large enough to hold the furniture, not just the table top.

Measure before ordering

  1. Measure the exact length and width of the area.
  2. Use painter's tape to mark the rug outline on the floor.
  3. Check that doors, floor vents, and walking paths remain clear.
  4. View the taped outline from the room entrance before choosing.

Love This!

Although the colors of this rug are a little more beige/autumnal than the picture shows, it's a real showpiece, a fun and gorgeous addition to my daughter's room. It's very unusual and feels great when you're barefoot!

Received Wrong Color.

Sheds pieces. Not noticeable yet, but it has only been 1 week. Not good for traffic areas. The wrong color rug was sent, but was able to use it in another room. Gorgeous in gray/silver.

Not Practical But Looks Great!!!

One's first thoughts when unwrapping and laying out this rug will be: how the heck do you vacuum this thing and, what if something spills on it? This is not the most practical rug in the world but it certainly is unique and visually appealing as a statement piece. It's the old choice between practicality or fashion. We ordered this rug for our nursery after reading all of the reviews on this and similar websites, the price and return policy was enough for us to take a chance. The rug consists of strips of solid-colored taffeta-type materials which have been knotted/weaved into a base rug to give it its unique appearance. We have yet to place a pad underneath it but find that so far, due to the knots, it is NOT comfortable to walk on. . . BUT when you first look into the nursery, the rug is beautiful and completes it perfectly! The rug was shipped in plastic wrapping and we noted a strong odor upon laying it out - the odor dissipated in about a week. We also noticed that there was a lot of fray to the material which I guess considering what it is made out of, is to be expected. I read a lot of concerns about loose pieces of fabric and how they can come undone from the rug. It is true, you can just find a spot and knot/weave the loose piece back into it, no big deal, but would be tiresome if you were constantly doing it as you would be if this was placed in a high traffic area. As far as spilling or getting anything on it, there really are no stain removal instructions (… I guess you could remove the affected strips of material and try hand washing but …). We have had this for about 3 weeks now, have vacuumed it lightly with an attachment and only found that 3 pieces came off, all of which we have reattached. The initial vacuuming helped remove a lot of the loose fibers and frayed edges and puffed it up nicely. I don't think this is a rug that will be in the nursery (or our lives) forever, obviously there would be concern over placing a mobile baby in the middle of it to crawl or play. And while I don't know if this will change with a pad underneath it but, it is not the comfortable rug you want to sink your feet into while pacing the floors awaiting sleep. BUT, on the whole, it is exactly what it appears to be: a unique, delicate shag rug…. it looks GREAT but is in no means practical.

Poor Condition

This rug is very nice and I love the design but the material and the way they put together is very poor. As soon as I walk on it they fall apart! I have to push them back inside the rug! But I keep it for the way it looks!

Safavieh Rug Is Gorgeous And Fun!

This Rug is absolutely gorgeous! The colors presented online are actually what you get in real life. Great for kids, but unfortunately the shag pieces will come out easily, however they are also easy to put back into the rug as well.

Safavieh Shag Rug - Great Rug Great Price

A beautiful rug which at first I was told was on back-order until the end of Nov. I called customer service & they confirmed that it was on back order but they will try to get it out as soon as it comes in. I was willing to wait because the price was great & I really loved the style of rug & colors for my newborn daughters room. The following week I got a shipping confirmation email which made me very happy. Well worth the wait the rug is absolutely beautiful & was exactly what we needed to bring the room together. Looks like rose petals on the floor.

Very Pleased With Order

I'm happy with my purchase, but the rug is less pink and more purple/mauve than I had anticipated. There are already pieces of fabric falling off the rug, but it is to be expected with a shag rug of this design. It still looks great in my shabby chic baby girl nursery and I am very satisfied with my purchase.
