What rug size do I need?

Measure the room before ordering. The rug should connect the furniture and leave a visible border of floor around the room.

Helpful rule: When you are between two sizes, the larger size usually gives the room a more balanced look.

Placement tips

Living room

Center the rug with the seating. At minimum, place the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug. Larger rooms usually look best when all furniture legs sit on the rug.

Dining room

Make sure chair legs remain on the rug when the chairs are pulled out. About 24 inches of rug beyond each side of the table is a useful target.

Bedroom

The rug should extend beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed when it does not fit beneath the entire bed.

Runners

Leave a few inches of visible floor on both sides. Center the runner in the hallway or open walking path.

Round rugs

Round rugs work especially well under round tables and in square entry areas. Choose a diameter large enough to hold the furniture, not just the table top.

Measure before ordering

  1. Measure the exact length and width of the area.
  2. Use painter's tape to mark the rug outline on the floor.
  3. Check that doors, floor vents, and walking paths remain clear.
  4. View the taped outline from the room entrance before choosing.

Care Information

Wool Rug Care:
• Vacuum regularly using suction only or with the beater bar turned off. Vacuum with the pile, not against it.
• Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry white cloth. Do not rub, scrub, or drag the cloth across the stain.
• For small spots, use only a small amount of cool water and a wool-safe cleaner after testing in a hidden area first. Blot dry with a clean towel and allow the rug to dry completely.
• For larger stains, pet accidents, odor, or full cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended.
• Shedding is normal for many new wool rugs and should decrease with regular vacuuming.
• Trim loose ends or sprouts with scissors at the base. Do not pull loose yarns.
• Rotate the rug periodically, especially in high-traffic areas, so wear and fading are distributed more evenly.
• Use a rug pad to reduce movement, help protect the floor, and extend the life of the rug.
• Recommended for indoor use unless the product is specifically marked outdoor safe.

Gorgeous Rug But Has Strong Chemical Odor

This is a beautiful rug, and comparable in quality to similar rugs I've purchased from Pottery Barn. The colors are more muted than photo shows: there is no warm gold, it is more of a khaki beige, and the blue is cooler as well. The only issue I have with the rug is the ODOR. It has a strong chemical odor, which I'm hoping will dissipate in time, as other reviewers have reported. I've had it airing on my screen porch for a few days, and the smell seems to be decreasing, but is still too strong to put the rug in our bedroom. One thing to note is that the photo shows a larger rug (I purchased 2 smaller rugs of 3x5' size) and the design is considerably less complex; it is not the same as the larger rug shrunken down. The border is 6. 5 inches and contains 3 motifs between the 2 corner motifs, not 5, and the blue interior has only 2 of the red motifs, not 4. This is something I wondered about before purchasing, so am including it FYI (photos of the different sized rugs would have been helpful. ) Overall very happy with purchase except for the odor.

I Am Thrilled With This Rug!

I was nervous ordering a rug from the internet but I found what I thought would work with our family room. I was thrilled when I opened the rug. The colors were right on and the size was just what I had ordered. The quality of the rug seems to be very, very good. My husband and I put the rug in place the next day and we could not be happier. The rug anchors the room and really adds a cozy feel to the hardwood floors. We will definitely be ordering another rug for the dining room when we are done painting.
